On Saturday, May 11 Alan Haines will tell the audience about the unsung heroes of our conflicts. The United States Merchant Marines are a maritime "service". They are not considered a uniformed service, yet the Merchant Marine is arguably incredibly important to the Armed Forces. They also help keep America's economy moving. Come hear about the service you have heard of but know little about. Alan will tell how the Merchant Marines helped win the Battle of the Atlantic.

Alan will share his experiences as a young boy growing up in the 1950's and how it influenced his desire to attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.
